Maikhan Small Hydropower Project of 12 MW capacity

Feasibility study and Pre-Feasibility study of Maikhan HPP 21 MW in Tsengel Soum of Bayan-Ulgii Province was conducted to supply electrical power for the three western provinces; Bayan-Ulgii, Khovd and Uvs. The design was converted to Maikhan HPP 12 MW in 2008 and the detailed design has been developed by our engineers.

The project is to generate the electricity by using water feeding through the intake of the tunnel and the penstock which will be connected from the Harnuur natural lake at an elevation of 2487 m above sea level (a.s.l) to the powerhouse located at the Hoton River with elevation of 2069 m a.s.l. The water head drop between Harnuur Lake and powerhouse will be approximately 418 m.

The project does not need construction of a dam or a new reservoir due to the ability of the project to utilize the water from the lake.

Maikhan HPP was registered as CDM project in DNA of Ministry of Environment Green Development.
